is admiralty practice includes all aspects of the general maritime law including trial, appeal and monitoring services.  His non-marine practice includes litigation matters involving Qui Tam / False Claims Act, intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing), "insurance bad faith" and coverage disputes, products liability, directors and officers' liability (D&O), employment practices, construction defect, and real estate. 

Mr. Hughes has served as a San Diego Superior Court Judge Pro Tem (trial and settlement conference judge) and an arbitrator on the panels of the San Diego County Superior Court and American Arbitration Association.  He is admitted to practice in the States of California and Massachusetts; all Federal District Courts within the States of California and Massachusetts; the First and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal; and the United States Supreme Court.  He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (Proctor in Admiralty), a graduate of Boston College (B.S., Economics, 1970) and Boston College Law School (J.D., 1973), and served on active duty as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps from 1973-77.
